Common Questions

Do I need to fast before an abdominal ultrasound scan?

Yes. Please fast for at least 4 hours before your appointment. Water is fine to drink. Fasting reduces bowel gas and gives clearer images of the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.

Do I need a full bladder?

A comfortably full bladder helps visualise the lower abdominal organs. Drink 1 litre of water about 1 hour before your appointment.

How long does the scan take?

The examination typically takes 20–30 minutes. Allow 45 minutes for your total appointment including preparation and results discussion.

Will I get results on the day?

Yes. The sonographer will discuss findings with you immediately after the scan. A detailed written report is emailed within 24 hours.

Do I need a GP referral?

No referral is required. You can book directly with us at any time.
