Common Questions

Do I need any preparation for a hernia ultrasound scan?

No special preparation is required. You can eat and drink normally before your appointment. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for easy access to the area being examined.

How long does the scan take?

The examination typically takes 20–30 minutes. Allow 45 minutes for your total appointment including preparation and results discussion.

Is ultrasound better than other imaging for hernias?

Ultrasound is the preferred first-line imaging for groin and abdominal wall hernias. It is dynamic — the sonographer can assess the hernia while you cough or strain, which provides information that static imaging cannot.

Will I get results on the day?

Yes. The sonographer will discuss findings with you immediately after the scan. A detailed written report is emailed within 24 hours.

Do I need a GP referral?

No referral is required. You can book directly with us at any time.
